Benjamin Moore ARBORCOAT Classic Oil Exterior Stain- Translucent (K326)

USE
  • Ideal for use on decking, siding, fencing, shakes, and furniture
  • For application on exterior hardwoods such as mahogany, teak, and ipe as well as traditional woods like pine, cedar, and redwood
  • Not recommended for use on previously painted surfaces, abraded, or brushed plywood
COVERAGE
  • Gallon (3.79 litres)- One coat of approximately 200-350 square feet of surface space
  • Coverage depends on surface porosity and texture
  • Be sure to estimate the right amount of stain for the job
  • This will ensure colour uniformity and minimize the disposal of excess stain
  • Prior to staining, make sure to have enough stain to complete an entire section
  • *Coverage may vary depending on the type, age, and texture of substrate as well as the application method*
SURFACE PREP
  • Surfaces to be stained must be clean, dry, and free of dirt, mildew, oil, or grease
  • Remove contaminants or chalky residue from weathered stained surfaces by washing with Multi purpose cleaner (K318)
  • This product can also be applied to surfaces previously stained with a translucent or semi-transparent stain that is weathered but is not flaking or peeling
  • Smooth planed wood must be sanded thoroughly or treated with a brighter & neutralizer (K317) to break the “mill glaze” to allow proper penetration and adhesion
  • If the existing coating is a solid stain or paint it should be completely removed prior to finishing with a finish remover (K315)
  • Weathered wood and mildew:
    • prior to staining, weathered wood must be sanded or treated with a wood restorer (K316), following directions, until a sound surface is obtained (loose or damaged wood fibres removed)
    • If mildew is evident, it must be removed by scrubbing with a restorer (K316) prior to staining or it will continue to grow through the fresh new stain
    • If mildew is widespread, the use of power wash spray equipment is suggested
    • Particular attention should be paid to overhead surfaces such as eaves, ceilings, and overhangs
  • Unweathered areas such as eaves, ceilings, or overhangs must be washed with a detergent solution and/or rinsed with a strong stream from a garden hose to remove surface salts that can interfere with proper adhesion
APPLICATION
  • Always test a small area for colour, penetration, and drying before proceeding
  • DO NOT THIN
  • Stir thoroughly before and occasionally during use
  • Brushing is the preferred method of application
  • When applied by roller or spray, back brushing is recommended to ensure a uniform distribution
  • Do not over apply, excessive or uneven application will prolong the dry time and may result in sheen irregularity
  • If needed, a second coat of stain can be applied at a rate of no less than 46.5-55.7 square metres (500-600 square feet) per 3.79L
  • Wait for the first cost to dry 24-48 hours before applying the second coat
  • Please note that multiple coats will affect the opacity of the final finish and obscure more of the natural colour of the wood
  • Multiple coats may also cause the finish to have a slight sheen
  • This sheen will slowly decrease with normal weathering
  • Use product when surface temperature is above 4.4°C (40°F)
  • Do not apply in direct sunlight
  • Keep container closed when not in use
  • Keep out of reach of children
  • It is recommended that anyone who is applying the product or present during application of this product, especially those who are asthmatic, follow the manufacturer's safety precautions
  • It is recommended that pregnant women are not present when product is being applied and drying
DRYING
  • Dries to touch in 6-8 hours
  • Can be recoated after 24-48 hours
  • Decks: allow 5-7 days for the stain to fully cure before full return to service
  • Humidity, temperature, and altitude may prolong dry, recoat, and cure times
CLEAN UP & STORAGE
  • Clean brushes and equipment with mineral spirits
  • In case of spillage, absorb with inert material and dispose of in accordance with local regulations
  • Wash thoroughly after handling
  • When storing, tightly close container and store upside down
  • Store in a well-ventilated area
